Hi Rob,

The white stuff was a bit tricky there for a while wasn't it.

Are you refering to Islay Mist ? I tried that while in Oban many years back, and thought the smoke flavouring so pleasant that I bought a bottle. Back home and after a couple of glasses (at different times)I had a complete turnaround and ended up giving it away to unsuspecting visitors.

Hi snori - no, I was referring to the various Islay distilleries - Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain and so forth. I've never encountered Islay Mist to be honest.

The white stuff was fine so long as you weren't skidding into a ditch or falling unceremoniously on to your rear end. Best appreciated from a distance.

Preferably hundreds of miles away on the tele or in a photo.

Since when did Lagavulin fall into the "and so forth" category?

I was back in Miami for my birthday and my friends there gave me a bottle of the aforementioned "and so forth" as a gift. Even my wife, who is not a scotch drinker said "well i don't really like the taste but it sure does warm you up on a chilly night."

I meant no disrespect to the mighty Lagavulin, I just thought it might be unnecessary to list all eight Islay malts. In fact, I left off two of my own favourites - Caol Ila and Bruichladdich. Glad to hear you and the wife have been enjoying a dram or two!

Just having fun of course. I love most of the Islay malts that i have tried although the Laphroig is a bit too much peat and iodine for me. Well the 10 year old at least. I had the 15 year old once and I think I could acquire a taste for that.

Laphroig, I find, is one of those whiskies that's a pleasure in the evening but a killer in the morning. Congeners to spare and then some.
